Columbus, OH --- James Edward Springfield, 76, a Standardbred owner, trainer, and breeder, died March 1, 2008, at his training barn after a heart attack.
He was training two of his own Illinois bred pacers and one horse for a local owner.
Mr. Springfield entered the horse business approximately 35 years ago with his brother, Jessie, who died four years ago, and raced at the fairs in Kentucky and Tennessee before moving on to Illinois and the Chicago circuit.
He and his brother built a training track at their farm after training many years at the old Brownsville, Tenn. fairgrounds.
Mr. Springfield is survived by his wife, Annie; sons, James and Melvin; twin daughters, Joy Arlisa and Sarita; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at First Baptist Church, Brownsville, Tenn., with visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Rawls Funeral Home (www.rawlsfuneralhome.com). Internment will be in Willow Grove Baptist Church Cemetary, Brownsville, Tenn.
