Dickerson named to head Pennsylvania breeders
Friday, July 22, 2005 - Dean A. Hoffman

Standardbred Breeders Association of Pennsylvania is pleased to announce that W. Logan Dickerson has been elected President of the organization at a meeting of the Board on July 20, 2005 at Hanover Shoe Farms. Logan succeeds Max J. Hempt, whom the Board recognized for his outstanding efforts on behalf of Pennsylvania breeders and Pennsylvania harness racing during his tenure as President.

Logan owns and operates Lindwood Farm (www.lindwood.com) near Greensburg, Pa. Established in 1978, Lindwood Farm stands the prominent Standardbred stallions S J’s Photo 4, 1:53 ($1,495,946), American Winner 3, 1:52.3 ($1,302,451), Sierra Kosmos 3, 1:53.4 ($558,710), Dragon’s Lair p, 1:51 ($1,085,317), Malabar Millenium 3, 1:54 ($67,973), and B J’s Superstar 3, 1:57.4f ($348,591). Stallions standing at Lindwood Farm breed over 500 mares annually, including international bookings, mainly through shipped semen.

Logan graduated from Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University) with a degree in civil engineering, and was a pioneer in pre-stressed concrete construction. Logan’s companies helped build six terminals of Philadelphia International Airport in the 1970’s, as well as constructing many major Interstate highway bridges in the Mid-Atlantic region, and are currently involved in upscale single-family home developments.

Logan and the Board are committed to representing the interests of Pennsylvania breeders, large and small, in the bright future of Pennsylvania harness racing. The organization maintains a website (www.standardbredbreederspa.org) which provides extensive information about the benefits of Pennsylvania slots legislation, the implementation of the Pennsylvania Breeder’s Awards program, as well as timely reporting of statistical information for pari-mutuel Pa. Sire Stakes, Pa. Fair Stakes, and Quaker States racing. The website also contains a complete listing of Pennsylvania eligible stallions, with downloadable pedigrees. Logan will be co-ordinating efforts of the organization to market Pennsylvania bred horses, and to educate the harness racing community about the benefits of breeding and racing in Pennsylvania with purses and Breeders Awards enhanced by revenue from slots legislation.
